"Didymus" March Meeting 2014

The March worship meeting of Didymus (Ringwood Unitarians) was on Sunday 9 March.  We had readings and contemplation around the topic, "What is truth?", with reference to the death sentences placed upon Jesus of Nazareth and Socrates by their peers, who apparently found the truth described by each of them too much to bear.

The ruling culture dominating the lives of these two great souls both felt the truth exposed by them, and feared it.

We used a range of different reading sources including a Celtic psalm and some hymns to focus on the issue and spent some silent time in meditation trying to make sense of the question or its implications.

Candles were lit dedicated to universal truths such as joy, kindness, order out of chaos and the essential oneness of the human species, but also marking with sorrow the victims of a nasty road accident and the sufferings of people today in Russia and Uganda as a result of things they cannot change.

We are delighted to announce that our meeting was at the Meeting House and History Centre, where we have been made welcome by the charity now owning it.  The Meeting House was owned and used for worship by Unitarians until 1976.
