What Unitarians are saying in 2013 in Ringwood coffee houses

So if you have stayed with this blog so far, what's first then?  Well, let's do what humans always want to do when there's something to be talked about - sit down and have tea or coffee together.

We need, probably, to have some start point for our conversation.  What is the Unitarian message?

The first thing that needs to be said is that this new group is not ever going to be there to tell you what your faith ought to be, or whether you ought to describe it as "faith" at all.  This is because as well as meeting to worship the divine (or tune into infinity) together, Unitarians meet up to listen.  To listen to others' experiences and the insight they have got from them.

So you would come to the group expecting to be able to say how things look to you, and you would expect to be properly listened to.  And you would also come expecting to listen properly to what everyone else has to say.

But, for various reasons, getting our conversation going might be difficult to start with.  Where do we start?   Just what is the Unitarian message?  Well one way of putting it is this:

As Unitarians, we live to

recognise the oneness of the divine principle in the flow of life
respond to a central call to love
pursue a quest to find truths about ourselves
and
accept a challenge to find - and live up to - what we are capable of believing, not what someone else says we ought to believe.

You might also find it helpful to look at the tabs (above) called "Our message of integrity and oneness" and "Living Unitarianly".  There you will find some of the common themes that currently feature in Unitarian thinking.

It's time now to have our first get together.  Let's meet for coffee in Ringwood and start chatting.  I am often at the Meeting House and History Centre on Saturday mornings - you could ask for me there.  Or we could make some other arrangement.  If you are interested then you can reply publicly on the blog, but equally you can write to me privately at this email address lucyunbox.ringwood@btinternet.com

This is also printed in Roundabout Ringwood, along with a mobile telephone number, on the Clubs and Societies page.
